Ofsted Inspection Report – December 2025
Beatrice Tate School was inspected by Ofsted on 9 December 2025 under the new national inspection framework.
Inspectors described Beatrice Tate as a calm, caring and welcoming school where students start their day safely and are greeted warmly by staff.
Students feel secure, included and ready to learn. They enjoy learning and speak enthusiastically about their lessons, friendships and activities. Students communicate confidently using a range of approaches including signing, symbols, communication devices and gestures. Inspectors also noted that students are cared for with dignity and flourish within a supportive environment.
Under this new framework, schools no longer receive a single overall judgement. Instead, inspectors publish a ‘report card’ which evaluates different areas of school life against national standards.
The inspection recognised many strengths of the school. Safeguarding standards were judged to be ‘met’, with inspectors noting the open and positive culture where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and students are made safer and feel safe.
The school achieved a ‘strong standard’ for attendance and behaviour, inclusion, and personal development and wellbeing. Inspectors highlighted the calm and caring environment, the genuine culture of inclusion, and the highly personalised approaches used to support students’ learning, communication, behaviour and health needs.
Achievement, leadership and governance, and post 16 provision were judged to meet the ‘expected standard’. Inspectors recognised that students achieve well, particularly in developing communication skills, independence and preparation for adulthood.
The report identifies the continued development of curriculum and teaching, particularly in mathematics and phonics, as the key area for further improvement. This work was already underway before the inspection and remains a central priority within the school’s improvement plan.
